We Don't Know Anything!

This particular conversation was born out of my epiphany that, while I had heard of the Crimean War, I had never learned anything about Crimea; its history, geography, language, exports, or other AI headings. I knew only that they'd been in a war, and also felt confident in my strong suspicion that they, like other places I've visited, inexplicably run Kojak and Mannix reruns all day long on their hotel TVs.

When I confronted Greg with the question - did HE learn anything about Crimea at MacArthur High School (Go {Name of Team} neither one of us ever saw play) he concurred that Crimea wasn't part of the syllabus we had there nor did it come up over pizza bagels at lunch.

We were ignorant. And then the dam burst - one by one - subject by subject - we started throwing out things we'd never learned, never experienced, didn't know anything about. It's humbling. Imagine looking at yourself in the mirror one morning, feeling a great grasp on knowledge, culture, and information, and then the next morning the mirror reflects back someone who is a dumb dummy (you still LOOK the same, btw, I'm only sharing this fact for people who are equally jarred by the revelation of suddenly not knowing anything).

So Greg and I talked, and talked, and talked and we decided it was time to share. We are not embarrassed to tell you what we don't know; the tricky part was editing down everything we don't know into a podcast-length period of time where listeners can still do their jobs, feed their children, and take an annual vacation. As Socrates said, "the only true wisdom is knowing that you know nothing." (thanks, Wikipedia).  JG
